International Forum Of Grains, Oilseeds and Related Products

This forum focuses on the market developments. It offers an excellent environment for discussions of trends in agricultural market, supports development of business strategies in a rapidly changing world, and provides great opportunities to contact producers and buyers of grains and oilseeds.

An overview of Iran agricultural and food industry situation
Iran is the second largest economy in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with an estimated Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2016 of US$412.2 billion.

Grains production in Iran
Grains production increased during 3 years and reached to 17.5 million tons in 2014/15 and then increased to 18.2 million tons in 2015-2016.
Grains imports to Iran
Iran imported more than 16.5 million tons grains in 2014/15 ,an increase of 55% . But grains imports reduced by 28% because of sufficient reserves in 2015-16
Wheat production in Iran
On average, wheat provides 40 - 45 % of the required calorie and 50 % of the required protein for each individual.
Wheat per capita consumption is 170 kg.
The most planted grains area belongs to wheat which is 5.7 million hectares.
In Iran wheat is an important product from cultural point of view and it is regarded blessing.
Bread is the main food portion of Iranian with no replacement.
The average amount of wheat imports to Iran has been 2.85 million tons during the past ten years , but since April 2016 wheat imports have been stopped to protect local production

There are 50 vegetable oil extraction units in Iran with production capacity of 4.5 million tonnes.
Vegetable oil processing capacity is more than 3.5 million tonnes annually.
Iran imports more than one million ton crude vegetable oil which is equal to one third of imports of food industries value.
Vegetable oil consumption per capita is 18 kg.
